FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Shenandoah University will have two chances to make a return trip to the NCAA Division III Baseball National Championships after downing Mary Washington 10-5 on Friday in the winner's bracket final of the South Regional.
QUICKSBURG -- Helen Good had a grand slam to get Clarke County's offense going and the Eagles never looked back. Clarke County pounded out 22 hits to cruise to a 23-6 non-district softball victory over Stonewall Jackson on Monday.
BURLINGTON, N.C. -- No. 9/14 Shenandoah University earned its first-ever USA South Conference baseball championship with a 7-4 win over Christopher Newport on Sunday afternoon at Burlington Athletic Stadium.
STEPHENS CITY -- Dan Jones struck out 10 batters while Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy's offense exploded for 16 runs as the Patriots defeated Fresta Valley 16-1 in high school baseball action on Monday.
"Talk to me." University of Virginia quarterback Ross Metheny looked both excited and exhausted. Only minutes following U.Va.'s annual spring game, which pitted the Orange team against the Blue team in a controlled scrimmaged, Scott Stadium hummed with enthusiasm over Metheny, the former Sherando star who'd just picked apart the Cavaliers' second-string defense.
NEW MARKET -- Stonewall Jackson pounded out 22 hits as it swept Eastern Mennonite in a non-district baseball doubleheader on Tuesday. The Generals won the first 12-0 and the second game 14-0. Both games were called after four innings due to the mercy rule.
WINCHESTER -- Samantha Vance has one of those events that just really says it all. All-around, as a matter of fact. That's what Vance competes in for the Wilson College gymnastics team, and -- all in all -- she's pretty darn effective.
WINCHESTER -- To combat the long season, Shenandoah skipper Kevin Anderson teaches his team to break the schedule down into four 10-game stretches. This allows his players to focus on the games at-hand, rather than become caught looking down the road at another game.
BERRYVILLE -- Freshman pitcher Sarah Herndon started her varsity career off on the right foot. Herndon threw a perfect game to lead Clarke County to a 15-0 win over Stonewall Jackson in non-district softball action on Thursday. The game only went five innings due to the mercy rule.
WOODSTOCK -- Warren County's Nicole King struck out 17 and helped herself at the plate to lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 non-district softball win over Central on Wednesday. It was the season opener for both teams.
