WINCHESTER -- Samantha Vance has one of those events that just really says it all. All-around, as a matter of fact. That's what Vance competes in for the Wilson College gymnastics team, and -- all in all -- she's pretty darn effective.
WINCHESTER -- To combat the long season, Shenandoah skipper Kevin Anderson teaches his team to break the schedule down into four 10-game stretches. This allows his players to focus on the games at-hand, rather than become caught looking down the road at another game.
BERRYVILLE -- Freshman pitcher Sarah Herndon started her varsity career off on the right foot. Herndon threw a perfect game to lead Clarke County to a 15-0 win over Stonewall Jackson in non-district softball action on Thursday. The game only went five innings due to the mercy rule.
WOODSTOCK -- Warren County's Nicole King struck out 17 and helped herself at the plate to lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 non-district softball win over Central on Wednesday. It was the season opener for both teams.
Limestone College's Jeremy Parker, a Millbrook High School graduate, posted a fourth-place finish at Saturday's NCAA Division II wrestling national championships in Omaha, Neb., to earn All-American honors.
