BUENA VISTA – Host Southern Virginia University finished off a season sweep of Shenandoah University with a 93-79 non-conference men’s basketball win on Tuesday night.
The Knights (10-4), who rallied for a three-point win in Winchester in December, led virtually throughout the return engagement.
The two teams traded the lead on five occasions, including three times in the second half, but Shenandoah (4-11) never led for consecutive possessions in the final 20 minutes.
Holding a 66-65 lead with 10:31 to play, the Hornets saw the Knights score 12 of the game’s next 14 points to take the lead for good.
Southern Virginia maintained at least a six-point advantage the rest of the way and pushed its lead into double digits by the 4:47 mark.
Playing without leading scorer Kevin Kline due to a minor injury, Shenandoah had four players — Mitch Dudley, Brandon Bryan, Chris Schrader and Wayne Washington — pick up the slack by each scoring at least 10 points.
