Prep roundup: Porter homers twice in Warriors’ win

WINCHESTER — Sherando’s Tre Porter clubbed a pair of home runs to lead the visiting Warriors to 12-0 victory in five innings over Northwestern District rival James Wood on Thursday.

Porter finished the day 3 for 3 at the plate with the two homers, four runs scored and four RBIs.

Jacob Carney added a 4 for 4 effort with a triple, an RBI and three runs scored for Sherando.

Darrell Thompson pitched four shutout innings for the win, striking out eight while allowing just one hit and three walks. Porter worked the final inning and struck out the side. Porter did allow two hits.

For James Wood (6-9, 3-6 Northwestern) Dakota Orndorff, Russell Repasky and Andy Kennedy each went 1 for 2.

Softball

Handley 7, Millbrook 4

WINCHESTER — Visiting Handley upended Millbrook 7-4 in Northwestern District softball action on Thursday.

Sydney Barr was 3 for 4 with a double and two runs scored to lead Millbrook (5-11, 3-6 Northwestern). Mackenzi Steele added a 2 for 3 effort with a double, a run scored and two RBIs, and Lacey Costello was 2 for 4 with an RBI for the Pioneers.

James Wood 2, Sherando 2

STEPHENS CITY — Northwestern District rivals Sherando and James Wood battled to a 2-2 tie on Thursday.

For the Colonels, Alex Sanford and Sydney Arnette had goals. Sarah Callaham and Marissa Maddalena tallied the assists for James Wood.
