JMU’s Kloosterman earns Preseason All-CAA honor
James Madison University tight end and 2014 Strasburg graduate Jonathan Kloosterman was named to the 2017 Preseason All-CAA Football Team on Tuesday at the Colonial Athletic Association Media Day in Baltimore.
The senior was one of six Dukes selected to the team.
JMU senior quarterback Bryan Schor was named the CAA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Redshirt senior Aaron Stennie, redshirt senior defensive lineman Andrew Ankrah, redshirt senior safety Raven Greene and redshirt junior special teams player Robert Carter Jr. were also named to the team.
The league’s 12 head coaches and sports information directors predicted in a vote that JMU, the defending Football Championsip Subdivision National Champions, would win the CAA title this season. JMU finished with 241 points, including 21 first-place votes, in the voting. Richmond was picked second, including three first-place votes, with 210 points. Villanova was third (209), followed by New Hampshire (169) and Delaware (133).
Kloosterman earned First-Team All-CAA honors last year as a junior. He had 24 receptions for 322 yards and seven touchdowns, which was a team-high. His receiving-touchdown total was tied for sixth in JMU single-season history. He was second in the CAA in the category. Kloosterman had five touchdowns in the postseason.
Schor was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Year at the end of last season. He threw for 3,002 yards and 29 touchdowns, both of which were second in JMU single-season history. He also won the Bill Dudley Award, which is given to the top Division I player in the state.
JMU opens its season at East Carolina at 6 p.m. Sept. 2.
