Recreation Calendar: Aug. 25

The following are some of the area recreational events that are being held:


The following activities will be held during the Shenandoah County Fair in Woodstock:

• Friday: 7 p.m., greased pig contest.

• Saturday: 6:30 p.m., modified truck and tractor pull.

• Sunday: 7 p.m., demolition derby.

• Monday: 7:30 p.m., demolition derby.

• Tuesday: 7:30 p.m., diesel pickup truck drag racing.

• Sept. 2: 7:30 p.m., Monster Truck show.


Dog swim

The Dog Days Dog Swim will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at Westover Park in Harrisonburg.

Proof of current rabies vaccinations, not tags, is required. The fee is $2 per dog, which benefits the Anicira Veterinary Center.

Dash for Diabetes

Shenandoah Valley Runners will sponsor the Dash for Diabetes race Sept. 4 at Millbrook High School in Winchester.

Included will be a four-mile race and kids one-mile and 100-yard dash for ages 5 to 12.

Golf tournament

The New Market Rotary Club will hold its annual benefit golf tournament Sept.6 at the Shenvalee Golf Resort.

Registration begins at 11 a.m. followed by lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A shotgun start will begin at 1 p.m. The tournament is captain’s choice. An awards banquet will follow the tournament.

Entry fees are $80 per golfer, $320 for a team of four, which includes green fees, cart rental and driving range balls. A special package that includes an added four mulligans per player is $400.

The tournament is a benefit in memory of Lynda E. Krobath and Albert Ray Brownfield III. Proceeds benefit the Sentara-RMH Hahn Cancer Center, Shenandoah Community Health Clinic and numerous other local charities.
