Recreation Events

The following are some of the area recreational events that are being held:


 Still Standing 5k

Shenandoah Valley Runners will sponsor the Still Standing 5k at 9 a.m. Saturday at Skyline High School, 151 Skyline Vista Drive, Front Royal.

Packet pickup and race day registration begins at 8 a.m.

Bike ride

Bike Shenandoah will hold a charity bike ride from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 801 Parkwood Drive, Harrisonburg.

Registration is $50 in advance or $55 the day of the event.  Information: 540-578-3024.


Hops and Hooves

Shenandoah Downs at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds in Woodstock will hold Hops and Hooves featuring harness racing and a craft beer tasting event from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate.

Pup pool party

The Town of New Market will hold its annual summer’s end pup pool party from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the town community pool.

The fee is $3 per dog. All dogs must have a current Shenandoah County dog license and shots.

Antique truck show

The annual Stonewall Ruritan Club Tri-State Antique Truck Show will be held Sept. 21-23 at the Frederick County Fairgrounds in Winchester.

The Epilepsy Foundation of Virginia will sponsor the Race for Seizure Freedom 5K starting at 10 a.m. Sept. 24 at the nature trail at the Clarke County Parks and Recreation Center, 225 Al Smith Circle, Berryville.

Guest speakers will be Dr. Paul Lyons and Dr. Lee Selznick. There will be a small petting zoo, Studio E art display and artists on site, along with food and raffle prizes.

Registration is $25 for adults, $10 for kids and $35 at the race.
