Hornets land program-best 12 players on All-ODAC football team

FOREST – Shenandoah University earned a program-record 12 football All-ODAC honors in selections announced Tuesday morning by the league office.

Included in that total are a program-best four named first team All-ODAC.

Senior Michael Ashwell and junior Hayden Bauserman highlight the first-team honors with repeat selections at wide receiver and quarterback, respectively, and kicker Jacob Newton and defensive back Devontae Dunn each earned their first-ever first team All-ODAC accolade.

Offensive guard Andrew Coffman and linebacker Tyler Williams grabbed second team spots with running back/slot receiver Jalen Hudson, receiver Leonard Scott, center Caleb Hutson, linebacker/defensive end Chris Grady, defensive end Jordan Heisen and safety Nate Hill all picked to the third team.

Bauserman, a Central High School graduate, continued to re-write the record book this season with 3,818 yards and 41 touchdowns on 321 completions in 514 attempts.

The junior, who has started every game of his SU career, set new season marks in passing yards and touchdowns, completions and attempts. He passed for at least 300 yards and two TDs in eight of the 10 games this season and was named ODAC Player of the Week twice.

Bauserman finished the regular season tops in Division III in passing yards and second in touchdowns.

Ashwell was on the receiving end of a program-record 80 of those completions with the senior gaining a team-leading 797 yards and nine touchdowns. He had at least three receptions in all 10 games and hit double-digits in four of the 10 contests.

Newton led the team in scoring this season, putting up 67 points on 43-of-45 PATs and making 8-of-10 field goals. The senior had a program-record four field goals in a week six win over Emory and Henry and his 43 successful PATs is a new program record.

Dunn made the most of his first year as a full-time starter, posting 45 tackles, three forced fumbles and three interceptions from his cornerback spot. Dunn also registered 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack.
