The following are some of the area recreational events that are being held:

Hike a Mile

The Front Royal/Warren County Appalachian Trail Community will launch the Hike A Mile Share A Smile! coupon campaign for National Trails Day starting Saturday.

Between Saturday and Sept. 29, take a selfie with a white blaze marker on the Appalachian Trail and show it to personnel at the Front Royal/Warren County Visitor Center at 414 E. Main St. In exchange, hikers will receive a sheet of coupons and goody bags for kids.

Coupon holders can also qualify for a grand prize drawing for a free night at Skyland Lodge by sending the selfie to the committee’s campaign gmail account for posting on Facebook.

Swim Fest

Lake Arrowhead in Luray will host a Swim Fest on June 16. There will be three race distances, featuring fun and competitive open-water swimming.

Sky Meadows

Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane will sponsor two events Saturday:

  • Clean the Bay Day: 10 a.m.-1 p.m.Learn how fences, tree plantings and trail maintenance improve water quality with an interactive watershed model.  Stop by Explorer Outpost off of the Boston Mill Road Trail to learn more.• National Trails Day: 10 a.m.-2 p.m., repair erosion along the old Gap Run route. Meet at the Backcountry Trailhead at 10 a.m. and bring gloves and water. Wear bug spray and sun protection. Tools provided.

Fish Fry Float

A fish fry float for Father’s Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 16 at the Strasburg Town Park.

There will be a free shuttle to float an hour section of the Shenandoah River on kayaks, paddle boards, tubes; fishing for kids, watermelon-eating contest, fish fry, river bug exploration and several exhibits from the Game and Inland Fisheries and Bay Fundation. Music by The Hatcher Boys and Diablo Dimes.

National Park

The Shenandoah National Park in Luray will host the following programs:

  • Meadow Walks: 10-11:30 a.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Walkers should meet at the Byrd Visitor Center at Mile 51 on Skyline Drive.
  • Twilight Hikes: 7-10 p.m., Saturday and June 9 and 23. Cost is $20 per person. Reservations required by calling 877-847-1919.
