Recreation Events

The following are some of the area recreational events that are being held:


Great American Campout

Sky Meadows State Park in Delaplane will participate in the Great American Campout from noon Saturday through noon Sunday.

Rangers will be on hand to help set up campsites. Activities include fishing, demonstration by Dogs East Search and Rescue, campfire sing-along with s’mores, nature hikes, hearth cooking demonstrations and more.

Space is limited. Reservations are $30 per campsite (up to six people) which includes dinner Saturday and breakfast Sunday. Reservations: 800-933-7275.


Truck drag/pull

The Shenandoah Country Fairgrounds in Woodstock will host a truck drag and pull show, shine and dyno Saturday. Information: 459-3867.


Full moon walk

The state Arboretum at Blandy Farm in Boyce will host a full moon walk from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. July 28. Walkers will meet outside the Blandy Library.

Golf tournament

June 29 is the deadline to register for the Randy Ward Memorial FFA Golf Tournament on July 2 at Shenandoah Valley Golf Club in Front Royal.

The tournament, hosted by the Strasburg FFA, will have a 1 p.m. shotgun start with a Captains Choice format. Cost is $300 for a four-person team or $75 for individuals. Information: Brian Fisher at 540-974-5312 or bwfisher@shenandoah.k12.va.us.


Valley Runners

Shenandoah Valley Runners will host the Liberty 5k and Kid’s Fun Run at 8 a.m. July 4 at Jim Barnett Park in Winchester.

Registration is $20 for the 5k and $10 for the Kid’s Mile. The price increases after June 24. Information, registration: www.svrunners.org and www.liberty5kwinchester.com.
