WOODSTOCK -- Strasburg's girls and boys teams sped to fourth place finishes respectively Saturday at the first Central Invitational cross country meet at the 3-mile Wetzel Farm course off North Street.
I haven't been watching as much college basketball as I usually do, which isn't all that surprising considering the fact that the only team I really care about -- Virginia Tech -- is having yet another bad season. It's really hard to watch a team that simply isn't very good.
WOODSTOCK -- Johnny Burnett can be one tough taskmaster. New Massanutten Military Academy football coach Chris Gilliland knows that all too well, having played for Burnett as a cornerback early in his football career at VMI.
STRASBURG -- Bobby Rager and Daniel Reynolds are always trying to make each other better. Every day at practice, the 119- and 125-pound Strasburg wrestlers are pushing each other, hoping to help each other improve with their skill sets.
WOODSTOCK -- If there were a sports version of the Geneva Convention, the Randolph-Macon Academy Yellow Jackets' 69-6 annihilation of the Massanutten Military Academy Colonels in girls basketball on Monday night would have violated many of its provisions.
STEPHENS CITY - Watching his team's opponent during warm-ups Monday night, Shenandoah Valley Christian Academy coach Ron Combs decided his squad wouldn't have to worry too much about stopping the 3-point shot but would need to focus its defensive attack on the inside.
WOODSTOCK -- The play still stands out in Carl St. Amand's mind. It was third-and-four against St. John's, and the Massanutten Military Academy cornerback picked off a pass at the 40-yard line that swung the momentum in the Colonels' favor. MMA ended up winning that game due in large part to the interception.
