STEPHENS CITY -- When the spring season first started, Sherando boys tennis coach Steve Jennings wasn't sure what to expect from his very young squad. As the season went on Jennings watched his team blossom into a very respectable team.
Kevin Reed had an end-of-year meeting scheduled for Thursday with Sherando athletic director Jason Barbe. Reed said about 15 minutes before the meeting, he got a text from Barbe saying to meet him in the main office. At that point, Reed knew something wasn't right.
Sherando's baseball team may have went mostly untested throughout the regular season, but throughout the playoffs the Warriors showed without a doubt they were the best team in the state.
RADFORD -- The entire infield at Radford University was littered with red and white baseball caps and baseball gloves. There, just to the inside of the pitching mound, was the Sherando Warriors baseball team dogpiling in celebration of the program's first-ever state championship.
RADFORD -- Sherando's defense really came on strong in the second half the 2013 baseball season, but perhaps the most important defensive performance for the Warriors came when it mattered most.

STEPHENS CITY -- Heading into the postseason, Sherando coach Pepper Martin was a little concerned with how his team would respond in a big game situation. The Warriors only had four games in the regular season that were decided by three runs or less. Last week the Warriors were put to the test, and they passed with flying colors.

LEESBURG -- Sherando may have been the underdog when it traveled to unbeaten Tuscarora for the Region II boys soccer semifinal match on Thursday, but the Warriors hardly seemed fazed by having to square up against last season's Group AA state runner-up.
WINCHESTER -- Sherando senior Chris Mikus didn't have a lot of opportunities to break the serve of Loudoun County's Jack McLister, but when he did Mclister generally found a way to rise to the occasion.
