FRONT ROYAL -- Skyline High School junior Kelsey Corcoran's left-handed baby hook from the low block with 12 seconds left Thursday night helped lift the Hawks to a 58-56 Northwestern District girls basketball victory over Sherando.
FRONT ROYAL -- "The Book of Eli" is playing at nearby Royal Cinemas. A few miles away, at Skyline High School, one of its own, Eli McEathron, was providing a five-star performance against Sherando and getting a rave review from his coach with his shooting Thursday night to keep the Hawks surging.
FRONT ROYAL -- If Skyline boys basketball coach Sonny Dyke puts together a highlight tape for his players at the end of the season, several segments might feature Tuesday night's game with Fauquier.
FRONT ROYAL -- For much of Saturday's non-district boys basketball game with visiting Warren County, the Skyline senior duo of Cliff Woodard and Kyle Phillips could hardly say they were having fun.

WINCHESTER - James Wood and Skyline both had a lot to be happy about after Wednesday's quad wrestling meet with West Virginia schools Martinsburg and Hedgesville.
WINCHESTER - Handley didn't play with a lot of defensive intensity for much of its game against Skyline on Tuesday night. However, the Judges picked it up when they needed it in the second half on their way to a 54-46 victory over the Hawks in Northwestern District action.
FRONT ROYAL - Mike Carlson knows he has three periods in each match to try to beat his opponent on the mat. If things aren't going his way at the start, he'll study his opponent's moves and tendencies, all while trying to make sure he isn't pinned himself.
FRONT ROYAL -- Five years ago, Ryan Rettberg was at a friend's house. Looking for something to pass the time, the friend's dad took them to a nearby golf course. It was the first time Rettberg had ever put his hands on a club. But what started as a fun thing to do quickly became Rettberg's passion. And in just five years, the Skyline senior has elevated his game to among the best and has earned the title as The Northern Virginia Daily's Golfer of the Year.
FRONT ROYAL - No one on Skyline is ready to call Tuesday night's 63-60 win over previously unbeaten Central the game that turned around the Hawks' season.
FRONT ROYAL - The Central Falcons and Skyline Hawks pitted their identical 2-2 records against each other in a non-district girls basketball contest Tuesday night.
FRONT ROYAL - It may have seemed as if Skyline suited up two different teams Saturday night when they hosted Clarke County in girls' basketball action.
FRONT ROYAL -- The Skyline Hawks began their 2009 basketball campaign quickly this year. Having completed just over two weeks of practice due to the football teams' extended season, the Hawks hosted Kettle Run with a couple of players still working on making the transition.
FRONT ROYAL -- Even when its last chance for the playoffs seemed exhausted with last week's loss to Sherando, Warren County still kept faith that a berth in the Division 3, Region II field could be earned with a win Friday night against arch-rival Warren County, along with a little help from the outside.
