FRONT ROYAL -- Skyline High School junior Kelsey Corcoran's left-handed baby hook from the low block with 12 seconds left Thursday night helped lift the Hawks to a 58-56 Northwestern District girls basketball victory over Sherando.
FRONT ROYAL -- "The Book of Eli" is playing at nearby Royal Cinemas. A few miles away, at Skyline High School, one of its own, Eli McEathron, was providing a five-star performance against Sherando and getting a rave review from his coach with his shooting Thursday night to keep the Hawks surging.

WINCHESTER - Handley didn't play with a lot of defensive intensity for much of its game against Skyline on Tuesday night. However, the Judges picked it up when they needed it in the second half on their way to a 54-46 victory over the Hawks in Northwestern District action.

FRONT ROYAL -- Five years ago, Ryan Rettberg was at a friend's house. Looking for something to pass the time, the friend's dad took them to a nearby golf course. It was the first time Rettberg had ever put his hands on a club. But what started as a fun thing to do quickly became Rettberg's passion. And in just five years, the Skyline senior has elevated his game to among the best and has earned the title as The Northern Virginia Daily's Golfer of the Year.
FRONT ROYAL - No one on Skyline is ready to call Tuesday night's 63-60 win over previously unbeaten Central the game that turned around the Hawks' season.
