All-area boys track teams

100-meter dash
John Simms, James Wood
Simms won the Northwestern District meet with a time of 11.19. He also placed eighth in the Region II and ran 11.08 in the Group AA meet.

200-meter dash
John Simms, James Wood

Ran the sixth best time in the region with a 22.79, a time which also won the district meet.

400-meter run
Phillip Hovatter, Stonewall

The Daily's track athlete of the year won the district and region before finishing second in the state and setting a school record of 50.32.

800-meter run
Colin Brown, Clarke County

Took third in the Region B meet with a time of 2:03.23 and participated in the Group A meet.

1,600-meter run
Ben Veilleux, Clarke County

The senior won the region meet in 4:16. 92 and also won the state meet.

3,200-meter run
Ben Veilleux, Clarke County

Veilleux did not run in the region meet but won the state meet with a time of 9:28.60.

110-meter hurdles
John-Michael Pirtle, Stonewall

His time of 16.01 was enough to place the freshman sixth in the region meet.

300-meter hurdles
John-Michael Pirtle, Stonewall

Pirtle finished fourth in the region meet with a time of 41.96.

4x100-meter relay
James Wood (Simms, Wingfield, Stonier, Brown)

Won the district meet in 44.60 and raced to a seventh place finish in the region meet.

4x400-meter relay
Stonewall Jackson (Warner, Shirley, Shaffer, Hovatter)

Took third in the Region B meet and won the Group A meet with a Stonewall Jackson record time of 3:26.81.

4x800-relay
James Wood (Jenkins, Bridgeforth, Longerbeam, Wright)

The Colonels won the district meet and placed second in the region meet in 8:15.94.

High jump
Vy Davis, Handley

Davis won the region meet with a leap of 6-07 and jumped in the state meet.

Long jump
Japheth Chunn, Warren

Won the district meet and took a leap of 20-11 to win the region.

Triple jump
Phillip Hovatter, Stonewall

Hovatter placed second in the region and state meets; his jump of 44-08.75 in the state meet is a Stonewall Jackson record.

Shot put
Hilton Morgan, Clarke County

His throw of 47-06 was good for fourth in the region.

Discus
Rueben Shanks, Warren
Won the district, placed third in the region with a 147-00 hurl, and took eighth in the state meet.
