The Strasburg sophomore defensive back had a feeling the ball was coming his way in the closing seconds of the Rams' home football matchup against cross-county rival Stonewall Jackson, a feeling that developed into a certainty as he spied Generals quarterback John-Michael Pirtle rolling out of the pocket toward the right sideline.

For the first time under Roller and the first time since 2007, the Rams have won back-to-back games, as the Purple and White pounded Page County on Friday night, 36-22.
FRONT ROYAL -- Walking along Blue Ridge Shadows' 18th fairway Thursday, the fate of the Bull Run District tournament championship rested in the hands of three golfers. Each one represented their team's top position -- Strasburg's Derek Davis, Manassas Park's Joey Gaouette and Madison County's Collin Tucker -- and each one's score would play a part in determining the district winner.
BERRYVILLE -- The Clarke County Eagles hosted a tri-team Bull Run District cross country meet Wednesday afternoon and made a strong showing, taking first place for both boys and girls against Strasburg and Rappahannock County.
STRASBURG -- The Strasburg Rams opened up Bull Run District play Thursday with a strong start to make quick work of Manassas Park as they dominated the evening, winning in straight sets, 3-0 (25-6, 25-18, 25-15).
STRASBURG -- The high school football season kicked off Friday night with a bang for the Skyline Hawks when they traveled to face the Rams of Strasburg. An early defensive battle quickly got out of hand as the Hawks won their opener 28-0.
FRONT ROYAL -- The 13th hole at Jackson's Chase Golf Course is not for the faint of heart. It's a challenging, 478-yard, par 5, with the fairway hanging to the right of the tee box. It's one of the five longest holes on the course and for any golfer, the prospect of a par or even a bogey is satisfactory.
FRONT ROYAL -- Gage Steele could see the momentum start to creep over to the Strasburg sideline. After a 25-yard strike from Rams quarterback Hunter Funk cut Warren County's lead to just six points early in the second quarter, the purple and white were beginning to play with swagger and Steele decided to do something about it.
STRASBURG -- Since Jill Lester took over as coach of the James Wood volleyball team before the start of the 2008 season, the Colonels have implemented a jump-serve attack that has flustered many opponents.
FRONT ROYAL -- For three years, Strasburg and Warren County have met on the gridiron to open their respective seasons. In 2007, Strasburg blanked the Wildcats, 35-0. For the past two years, however, it's been all Warren County.
STRASBURG -- The glaring issue for Strasburg coach Mark Roller this preseason has been finding replacements for departed running backs Bub McKelvey and Tanner Orndorff, who last season rushed for 845 and 711 yards, respectively.
MADISON -- Strasburg and Clarke County's girls softball teams split their regular season meetings, so the atmosphere was tense when they squared off in the Bull Run District tournament semifinals at Madison County.
