FRONT ROYAL -- Warren County girls soccer coach Mike Carpenter wasn't surprised to see senior forward Kelsea Potts sending shots into the net on a regular basis this past season. After all, Potts entered this spring as the school's all-time leading scorer and had set a Wildcats single-season scoring record with 18 goals during her sophomore season in 2012.
FRONT ROYAL -- Jeannie Tallent has to be a jack of all trades as a tennis coach. Sometimes she's like a psychiatrist. Other times she has to be a friend, a motivator, a mother. Throughout the season she did all of it well in leading Warren County's girls tennis team to its best season in school history.
Prior to the start of the spring season last year, the Virginia High School League implemented a new rule that placed stricter limitations on the number of innings that high school pitchers could throw in a given time period.
You go to enough football camps and talk to enough football coaches, and sooner or later you'll hear all about players' "heads swimming" as they learn a new offense or defense, shift over to a new position, move up a level of competition or join a new program.
