Wakefield kindergarteners celebrate graduation in style

Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly held its annual kindergarten graduation ceremony on May 22. Ten proud kindergartners processed into the school’s auditorium. The boys wore coats and ties and the girls wore white dresses. The achievements of the preschool and pre-kindergarten students also were celebrated that morning.

After opening remarks, the pre-school class mounted the stairs, sang “Yankee Doodle Dandy,” took bows, and left the stage. They were followed by the pre-kindergarten class which recited the poem “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” with each student individually saying two lines.

Each kindergarten student took the stage individually and recited a poem of their choice, such as William Blake, A.A. Milne and William Wordsworth. Reading awards were given to students in all classes who had earned them, and all students received certificates of achievement. The kindergartners were awarded their diplomas.

The members of the kindergarten class — now first graders — were Garrick Church, Ethan Frost, Sydney Gerard, Alexander Ichiuji, Kamran Mashaw, Carmen O’Neill, Arielle Shepard, Charlotte Summers, Marion Walker and Lily Yacubian. Jennifer Deal was their teacher.

The ceremony ended with the singing of “Grand Old Flag.”
