Harrisonburg joins Yard Crawl route

WOODSTOCK — The Route 11 Yard Crawl is growing even larger next year.

The crawl, a 40-mile stretch of yard sales and shoppers lining both sides of U.S. 11 from Stephens City to New Market, will expand by nearly 20 miles when it adds Harrisonburg as an endpoint next fall. The 11th annual Route 11 Yard Crawl is scheduled for Aug. 8.

Cheri Wright, executive director of the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce, said the chamber has partnered with the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce to bring out next year’s mammoth yard crawl.

“Basically, it’s already going in that direction anyway,” she said, “so why not include everyone?”

Wright previously served as the executive director of the Wabasha-Kellogg Chamber of Commerce in Minnesota. She said the area is home to a 100-mile garage sale, which could be the future of the Route 11 Yard Crawl.

“It’s getting bigger,” she said,” so why fight it?”
