State police investigating fatal law enforcement shooting

The Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that took place Friday evening in Frederick County, according to a news release issued by the department on Friday.

The news release states that shortly after 5 p.m., the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call from a residence in the 100 block of Gregory Place in the Regency Lakes subdivision. The emergency call was for a domestic situation. When the sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene and entered the residence, he encountered a male subject who was subsequently shot.

The deputy immediately requested medical treatment. Despite efforts, the adult male subject died at the scene. His remains will be transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Manassas for autopsy and examination.

An adult female inside the residence was not injured during the incident, nor was the deputy.

At the request of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Culpeper Field Office’s Police Shooting Investigative Team responded to the scene to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
