Conservationists host events at orchard

The Frederick County Conservation Easement Authority and the Potomac Conservancy invite the public to attend an event at a local orchard and cider mill and learn about landowners who took steps to protect their land.

Organizers plan to hold the events on Sept. 23 and Oct. 21 at Winchester Cider Works, 2502 N. Frederick Pike. Attendees can tour the orchard, see a film and hear from organizations about protecting area lands and waterways. Events run rain or shine from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The county established the Conservation Easement Authority in 2005 as a means to aid landowners in protecting farms, forests, open space, scenic vistas, historic sites and water resources. The authority acts as a clearinghouse for conservation easement information and guides property owners in evaluating easements. More than 8,000 acres lie in easements in the county as of March.
