SU among 13 conservatories worldwide to receive All-Steinway designation

Shenandoah University Conservatory celebrated its official status as an All-Steinway School recently with a crowd of more than 200 people.

“The celebration went wonderfully,” Emily Burner, director of media relations at Shenandoah University, said about the event on Friday.

SU is among 13 conservatories around the world to receive this designation. Eight of those are located in the United States.

According to Burner, since September 2011, $2.7 million was raised to purchase 27 new Steinway pianos and 57 Steinway-produced Boston pianos, adding 84 new pianos to the Shenandoah Conservatory piano fleet.

Bruner said $1.5 million was provided by donors. “The rest of the money was contributed by the university. “

Buddy Valastro, “Cake Boss” of the TLC reality show created a life-sized 120 lb. Steinway Model “B” piano cake to honor the designation. The cake took about four days to plan and create, with 10 people to design and construct it.
