Shower

Tea

Today is the deadline to attend the Warren Heritage Society’s Shenandoah Valley Frontier Tea and Colonial Games at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Balthis House in Front Royal.

The cost is $10 per person, $15 per couple and free for ages 10 and younger. Information: 540-636-1446.

 

Applique

The Shenandoah Valley Applique Society will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the Shenandoah County Library in Edinburg. Information: Jan Hood at 459-8118.

Revival

Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Front Royal will hold revival services at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.

Guest speakers will be the Rev. Donald Reed from Mount Paran Baptist Church in Linden on Wednesday, the Rev. Nathaniel Townley from Forest Grove Baptist Church in Ammissville on Thursday, and the Rev. James Starks from Front Royal on Friday.

 

Wrestling

Warren County Parks and Recreation and the Warren County High School wrestling team will sponsor the Next Level Wrestling Clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday in the school’s auxiliary gym.

Luncheon

The Strasburg Chamber of Commerce will host Women In Business, a mid-day marketing luncheon, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Chamber office.

The guest speaker will be Leslie Currle, business development manager at People Incorporated.

Chamber membership is not required. Cost is $10 for lunch, tax and gratuity. Non-Chamber members may attend free for a $10 per meeting fee. Information, reservations: 465-3187 or email strasburgcoc@gmail.com.

 

Concert

Theatre Shenandoah will host the album release for Brent Funkhouser’s Old Souls Band at 7 p.m. Thursday at 107 Center St., Edinburg.

Bloodmobile

Woodstock Presbyterian Church, in partnership with the Shenandoah County Chamber of Commerce, is hosting a blood drive from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday.

Bible school

Crossroads Baptist Bible Church in Mount Jackson will hold vacation Bible school from 6:30 to 9:30 pm. Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The theme is “Put on Full Armor of God.”

Saturday’s activities include demonstrations at 11 a.m. by members of the Orkney Springs Fire Department and at 1 p.m. by the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Department. Lunch provided. Registration: 540-624-0796.

 

Tea

Children are invited to dress up for an elegant Anne of Green Gables tea party from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Handey Library in Winchester for ages 6 to 12.

Gardeners

Shenandoah County Extension Master Gardeners will be available to answer home horticulture questions from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Lowe’s in Woodstock. Information: 459-6140.

 

Baseball

Warren County Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Front Royal Cardinals, is offering a package to celebrate Dad on Saturday.

The package includes a Cardinals baseball cap, two tickets to the Cardinals game at 7 p.m. against the New Market Rebels and a hot dog and drink for each ticket holder.

Cost of the package is $40 and additional tickets can be purchased for $7 each.

Party

Zion Christian Church will hold a lawn party starting at 4 p.m. Saturday at 1772 Zion Church Road, Maurertown.

The menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, country ham sandwiches, barbecue, cake and homemade ice cream.

 

Library

Samuels Public Library in Front Royal will hold Chess and More at 2 p.m. Saturday for ages 6 and older. Information: 540-635-3153.

 

SHS

Members of the Strasburg High School class of 1962 are needed to help plan the upcoming reunion. Information: Roberta Ritenour at 933-6278.

Trip

Monday is the deadline to register to attend a bus trip sponsored by Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation to see “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” on Aug. 9 at Riverside Theatre in Fredericksburg.

Cost is $93 and includes the show ticket, lunch and transportation. Seating is limited. Registration, information: 459-6777.

 

School news

The Shenandoah County School Board made the following personnel announcements at its June 14 meeting:

Sandy Hook Elementary School: Celeste Crowder was appointed a second-grade teacher; Nicholas Oakley is transferring from Ashby Lee Elementary as a physical education teacher.

Peter Muhlenberg Middle School: Sara Kelley has been appointed a social studies teacher; Tina Acker has been appointed a paraprofessional; Linda Plaugher has been appointed a food service worker.

W.W. Robinson Elementary School: Nichole Napotnik has been appointed a fifth-grade teacher.

Ashby Lee Elementary School: Kristin Sheridan has been appointed a first-grade teacher; William Harlow Jr. is transferring from W.W. Robinson Elementary as a physical education teacher; Kathy Wills is transferring from Peter Muhlenberg Middle as a food service worker.

Signal Knob Middle School: Jason Conroy is transferring from Sandy Hook Elementary as a physical education teacher.

Strasburg High School: Melissa Foltz, formerly an assistant principal, has been named principal; Jane Plaugher is transferring from Signal Knob Middle as a food service worker.

Stonewall Jackson High School: Aimee Miller, formerly a school counselor, has been named coordinator of counseling.
