Local citizens to remember Peter Muhlenberg

The Rev. Larry Wilson Johnson will lead prayers of remembrance about the life of Peter Muhlenberg at the courthouse in Woodstock at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Johnson, a descendant of several great grandfathers who fought in the Revolutionary War, will be joined by local pastors and citizens at the Muhlenberg statues in front of the courthouse.

Muhlenberg, a Lutheran/Anglican pastor, persuaded 300 men assembled at the intersection by the courthouse to join the American Revolution during a sermon on Jan. 21, 1776. Muhlenberg had been asked by Gen. George Washington and Patrick Henry to form and lead a regiment in the war for independence.
