Clarification: In Friday’s “Belle Grove continues archaeological investigations at slave quarters sites” Kristen Laise, executive director of Belle Grove, has since offered the following wording to clarify a quote of hers in the story:  “I like to talk about the research we’re doing and the three components that really make up this project: archival, contextual, and physical research, like archaeology.”

Laise also clarified that it was archival research, not archeological research, that showed the Hite family enslaved 276 slaves during 1783 to 1851.
