Democrats ready for annual gala
FRONT ROYAL – Jennifer Lewis, the Democratic candidate for Virginia’s 6th District, will appear at the Warren County Democrats’ Annual Gala Dinner.
The gala is slated for Sept. 14 at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club, 134 Golf Club Circle, Front Royal. It will kick off at 6 p.m. with a social, which will be followed by a 6:30 p.m. dinner.
Linda Allen, a Warren County Democratic Party member, said the dinner is an opportunity for citizens to hear, see and evaluate Lewis in person.
Lewis, D-Waynesboro, will face off against Ben Cline, R-Amherst, in the Nov. 18 election that will determine who fills the seat Bob Goodlatte, R-Roanoke, has held since 1992. Allen said “it is definitely time for a change” and “it’s long overdue.”
“Some of these people that we elect are very questionable. And I think that we should never give up our responsibility to say that we need change for the better, to correct things,” she said. “Lots of people get away with a great deal because we don’t act, we don’t speak up on issues that really need a better, balanced view.”
Allen said Lewis has integrity, is determined and is aggressive.
“That’s very good for us. We need new ideas. We need to make progress on helping the families here in our own district,” Allen said.
A Warren County Democrats news release states that Lewis “is a vocal advocate for higher pay for living wages, improved healthcare and tuition-free college, amongst other pressing issues of concern to all.”
The release adds that the gala “presents the perfect opportunity for fellow Democrats to meet and greet, in addition to welcoming new members into a community of like-minded spirits.”
Allen said that $50 reservation can be paid online or $50 check should be made out to the WDCD and mailed to P.O. Box 615, Front Royal, 22630 with “dinner” written on the memo line.
