4:30 -- Hi everyone. We are back for another season of high school football. We have nine games total tonight. It's our busiest week of the season. We are only covering five of the games, but I will do my best to keep you updated on all nine games.
Our new reporter, Brian Eller, will be at the Strasburg-Skyline game. Jeremy Stafford will be Quicksburg for Stonewall Jackson and Wilson Memorial. Ben Brooks will be at the Sherando-Musselman game. Robert Edmonds is covering Park View-Millbrook for us, and Jerry Holsworth is covering James Wood-Washington. Be sure to check out their stories in tomorrow's paper.
As always feel free to leave comments for me throughout the evening, or if you have updates from various games feel free to let us know.
6:51 -- Almost time for the first kickoffs. Is everyone excited for this week's games? There should be some good football played tonight. Jeremy Stafford just informed me that there's nothing happening yet as his game -- which starts at 7:30. Great observation from Stafford. That's why we pay him the big bucks.
7:30 -- Sherando is up 3-0 in the first quarter. The Warriors' kicking game has been strong so far this season. Also, Skyline is up 14-0 after the first quarter. Cliff Woodard has two TDs.
7:37 -- Another update from Stephens City. Sherando trails Musselman, 6-3, in the first quarter. Uh-oh. Could their be an upset in the making?
7:40 -- Wilson Memorial QB Jake Bailey ran 36 yards for a TD to go up 7-0 with 8:42 left in the opening quarter against Stonewall. However, the Generals came right back with a score of their own. John-Michael Pirtle threw a 44-yard TD pass to Colton Leitzel to tie it at 7-7 with 4:29 left. Stonewall passing? That doesn't sound or look right.
7:59 -- Pirtle fumbled a pitch and Wilson's Malik Rucks took it to the house from 17 yards out. It's 13-7 Wilson Memorial at the end of the first quarter. Skyline is now up 21-0. At last report, Sherando is still down 6-3 to Musselman at the start of the second quarter.
8:09 -- A Wilson Memorial fumble sets up a Juan Luna Guerrero 38-yard field goal. Wilson leads 13-10 with 7:35 left first half. Sherando trails 6-3 with around 5 minutes left in the first half. Musselman lost 34-0 to Broad Run last week, so how good is Broad Run?
8:28 -- Ben Brooks is reporting that Roger Smith did not start for Sherando tonight. The running back came in to start the second quarter. Musselman is up 6-3 at the half. Also, Handley is leading Harrisonburg 14-6 late in the first half, and James Wood and Washington are tied 7-7 at the half.
8:35 -- Sherando has just taken a 10-6 lead with 10:37 left in the third quarter. I guess it helps when you have your top running back in the game.
8:41 -- Stonewall still trails 13-10 at the half. However, SJ's passing game is looking sharp. What in the name of Dick Krol is going on?
8:53 -- Skyline is up 34-0 after three quarters. It looks like it's going to be a long season for the Rams. Sherando is starting to take control of its game. The Warriors are now up 16-6 with 5 minutes left in the third quarter.
9:09 -- Mussleman has cut the deficit to 16-12 with 3:13 left in the third quarter. A good one brewing in Stephens City. Dylan Dawson scored on a 2-yard run for Stonewall Jackson (That's more like the Stonewall we know). Generals are up 17-13 with 5:51 left. Did I not say there was going to be some good football tonight?
9:11 -- It's been reported that Strasburg didn't bring much of a crowd tonight for the game. Where's all the Strasburg faithful? Come on Ram Nation you're better than that.
9:22 -- Stonewall still leads 17-13 at the end of the third quarter. Wilson Memorial is driving to start the fourth quarter.
9:30 -- Wilson Memorial's Gage Staton ran it in from 1 yard out and Wilson took the lead over Stonewall 19-17 with 7:09 left. Stonewall started to put a drive together, but Trevor Warnor fumbled with 5:26 left. Also, Sherando is still up 16-12 with around 5 minutes left in the game.
9:41 -- Our first final of the night! James Wood 35, Washington 19. Also, Stonewall still trails with a minute left and Wilson Memorial has the ball. Sherando is up with less than two minutes left, 16-12.
9:43 -- Wilson Memorial just scored again. The Green Hornets lead 26-16 with 32 seconds left.
9:45 -- Wilson Memorial defeats Stonewall Jackson, 26-17.
9:57 -- Sherando holds off Musselman to go to 2-0. Also, Handley just scored to take a 21-17 lead on Harrisonburg with 5 minutes left.
10:05 -- Handley hangs on for a 21-17 win. A solid start to the season for the Judges.
10:06 -- Skyline routs Strasburg, 41-13.
10:22 -- Clarke County routs Hedgesville, 46-7. This coming off a 45-0 win last week. Wow! The Eagles racked up 372 yards on the ground. Sam Shiley had 166 yards on 21 carries and 3 TDs. Also, James Wood's Brock Lockhart had 302 yards tonight and 4 TDs.
11:07 -- Central picks up a win over Manassas Park, 27-17.
