Friday Night Football - week 8 (Live from the Sports Desk)

Tonight's games:
Handley 10, Sherando 0
Central 24, Stonewall Jackson 14
Warren County at Fauquier
Clarke County 48, George Mason 0
James Wood 34, Skyline 6
Manassas Park 42, Strasburg 6
Millbrook at Brentsville

5:18 -- The weather has held up and all the games are on as scheduled. I will try to give as many updates as possible throughout the evening. It should be another great night of football.
5:36 -- Jeremy Stafford reports that Roger Smith is on the field and appears ready to play tonight against Handley.
7:39 -- After the first quarter Handley and Sherando are still scoreless. Sherando blocked a Graham Sharples field goal attempt in the first quarter. Also, James Wood leads Skyline 14-0 in the first quarter.
7:57 -- James Wood leads 20-6 at the half. Brock Lockhart keeps chugging along. He has 115 yards and 2 TDs in the first half, meanwhile Cliff Woodard has 132 rushing yards and a touchdown for Skyline. The Hawks have truned the ball over twice, which has led to 2 James Wood TDs. Sherando and Handley are still tied 0-0 late in the first half. Geremi Long fumbled the ball away in Handley territory, but the Handley defense held and kept the Warriors from scoring.
8:04 -- Central leads Stonewall Jackson 7-0 early in the second quarter. Handley's Geremi Long threw an interception, but again the Handley defense held to end the first half.
8:19 -- The struggles continue for Strasburg. The Rams trail Manassas Park 21-0 at the half. Strasburg has had numerous turnovers and had a punt for negative yardage.
8:30 -- Central leads 14-0 at the half.
8:41 -- JMU-bound Graham Sharples just made a 32-yard field goal to give Handley a 3-0 lead late in the third quarter.
8:43 -- Clarke County is up 42-0 at the half. Sam Shiley has 6 touchdowns. Clarke had 243 yards of offense compared to -1 for George Mason, so much for that 5-1 Mustang record.
8:47 -- Handley's David Carter just ran for a 6-yard TD run to give the Judges a 10-0 lead early in fourth quarter. A Handley interception set-up the TD.
9:07 -- A Daquanta Pannell interception may have sealed a win for Handley. The Judges are driving with under 4 minutes left and a 10-0 lead.
9:22 -- Handley holds off Sherando 10-0. A solid win and the Judges show they are more than just Jeremiah Wilson. Also, James Wood beat Skyline 34-6.
9:33 -- Manassas Park beat Strasburg 42-6. Central leads Stonewall 21-0 in the fourth quarter.
9:48 -- Sorry, nothing new from Clarke County yet. I will pass it along as soon as I hear something.
9:52 -- James Wood's Brock Lockhart broke the Colonels single season rushing record tonight. He has now rushed for 1,345 yards, breaking Clayton Hartman's record, set in 1977, of 1,326. Congratulations Brock.
10:54 -- Clarke County won 48-0.
10:06 -- Central beat Stonewall 24-14.
