Friday Night Football - week 9 (Live from the Sports Desk)

Tonight's games:
Clarke County 55, Strasburg 7
Stonewall Jackson 14, Luray 7
Riverheads 42, Central 21
Millbrook 10, James Wood 7
Warren County 27, Brentsville 20

4:50 -- Another strong slate of games is on tap for tonight. As usual I will give you updates as they come in. It's a dreary, rainy night, but I expect the football to be top-notch. Central has a chance to make a big statement with an upset of Riverheads. Millbrook and James Wood games always seem to come down to the wire. It should be a fun evening of football.
7:42 -- First update of the night. Riverheads has taken a 7-0 lead on Central with 7 minutes left in the first quarter. Haven't heard any updates from the Stonewall game, but word has it that former Daily writer Craig Juer is at the game. Maybe that will bring the Generals good luck. Something tells me Mrs. Burner's chilli won't last long tonight. Welcome back Craig.
7:54 -- Our first update from Stonewall, the Generals have taken a 7-0 lead early in the second quarter. Dylan Dawson had a 4-yard TD run and has 60 yards rushing already.
7:58 -- Riverheads is taking it to Central tonight. The Gladiators lead 21-7 at the end of the first quarter.
8:00 -- Now the scores are roiling in. Warren County is tied with Brentsville 13-13 at the half. Brentsville led 13-0 after the first quarter, but the Wildcats have bounced back. Marty Haley has two TD runs. The senior has 140 yards on 16 carries.
8:03 -- Thanks schoolboard for the updates. Boy, wouldn't that be a big upset. A win by Millbrook would really help their playoff chances.
8:05 -- Stonewall has just taken a 14-0 lead on Luray. Another touchdown by Dylan Dawson. The Generals haven't thrown a pass yet, with only 4:32 left in the first half. Now that's Dick Krol football.
8:11 -- Luray's Willie Logan just threw a 44-yard TD pass to cut the Stonewall lead to 14-7 with a little over three minutes left in the first half.
8:23 -- Riverheads now leads Central 28-7 with 3 minutes left in the first half. Stonewall is up 14-7 at the half.
8:32 -- Thanks again, schoolboard. Sounds like that's going to be a typical Millbrook-James Wood game.
8:40 -- It looks like the rain is really helping Riverheads. The Gladiators are up 35-7 at the half over Central.
8:55 -- Keenan, No. Let me clarify Craig Juer is not back with the Daily. He is just in town visiting.
9:06 -- Millbrook is up 10-7 on James Wood with less than 4 minutes left in the game. Also, Riverheads is now up 42-7 on Central.
9:21 -- Our first final. A big win for the Pioneers. They also just greatly improved their playoff chances.
9:37 -- Two more finals are in. Warren County beat Brentsville 27-20. Tyler Post scored on a 1-yard run with 34 seconds left for the game-winner. Marty Haley ran for 260 yards on 33 carries and three TDs. Also, Stonewall Jackson held on for a 14-7 win.
9:53 -- Another final. Riverheads defeated Central, 42-21. Don't forget there are two more games tomorrow. Sherando is at home with Liberty at 1 p.m. It is Sherando's Homecoming. Also, Skyline plays at Handley tomorrow at 1 p.m. It is the Hall of Fame game for the Judges. Handley's state champion girls tennis team will also be honored at halftime and will receive their state championship rings.
10:10 -- Clarke County beats Strasburg 55-7. Make sure to check out all the stories in tomorrow's paper.
