Millbrook wins Group AA, Division 3 state title, 49-38

1:52: Some final stats from the game: Green had 31 points, 8 steals and 7 rebounds. White had seven points and 8 rebounds. Mead had only 2 points, but had four steals and 6 rebounds. Millbrook had only two turnovers in the second half. Greensville County finished with 24 tournovers, 13 in the second half.

12:34: Millbrook wins the state championship. The Pioneers won 49-38. Green finished with 31 to lead the way.

12:30: Millbrook has the game in hand. The Pioneers will win their first state championship. It's 48-38 with 48 seconds left.

12:21: With 3:56 left Millbrook leads 41-32. White hit another jumper. Time to see if they can hang on for their first state championship.

12:18: Emily White hit two free throws. Millbrook leads 37-30 with 5:43 left. Green has 24 points for the Pioneers.

12:15: Green scored on a driving layup but she is limping around noticebly, clearly not at 100 percent. Millbrook leads 35-30 with 6:08 left.

12:12: Millbrook leads 33-28 after three quarters. Lisa Merriman hit a 3-pointer to give the Pioneers a 5-point cushion. Should be a great finish. Hopefully, Green will be OK. She is coming back in the game.

12:09: Millbrook leads 30-28 with 36 seconds left in the third quarter, but Courtni Green just left the game with a leg injury. Green had scored 22 of the team's last 24 points.

11:58: Green has just went over the 1,000 point mark for her career. She hit a 3-pointer to tie the game, for points 1,000, 1,001 and 1,002. It's 26-26 with 4:03 left in the third quarter.

11:49: Millbrook shot just 7-for-33 (21.2 percent) in the first half. They also turned the ball over nine times. Greensville was only 7-for-15 from the foul line. Tyler had seven points and three blocks to go with her seven points. Millbrook has said all season that the third quarter is their quarter. We'll see if that holds true again.

11:41: Greensville leads 22-17 at the half. Green has kept Millbrook in the game with 11 straight points. The Eagles have done a great job of driving to the basket a lot and getting Millbrook in foul trouble. Kerris Doyle has eight points for Greensville, while Tyler has seven.

11:35: Green has come to life. Another steal and layup cuts it to 16-12 with 3:16 left in the first half. Green has six straight points.

11:31: Green scored on a steal and a layup. Then on the next possession she got another steal, missed the layup, but was fouled. She will be at the free throw line for two shots with Millbrook trailing 16-8 and 3:50 left in the first half. Millbrook freshman Ky Rooks is now guarding Tyler. We'll see how she does.

11:28: Mobley just picked up her third foul. Greensville, 16-6 with 5:21 left in the first half. Millbrook's top scorer this season, Courtni Green still hasn't scored.

11:25: Sara Mead just picked up her third foul. Big trouble for Millbrook. Mead is the one who makes this team go. Greensville, 13-6, 6:12 left in first half.

11:20: Greensville leads 11-4 after the first quarter. Alisha Mobley and Emily White each have two points for the Pioneers. Greensville is controlling the game so far. The Pioneers haven't been able to speed the game up. Perhaps more troubling is the foul situation. Mobley and point guard Sara Mead each have two fouls. Greensville is only 2-for-9 from the foul line or the score could be a lot worse.

11:09: Millbrook has missed its first 10 shots. Greensville, 4-0, 3:47 left.

11:02: So far the pace is going Greensville's way. Tyler scored inside for the game's only basket., 2-0 Eagles with 5:33 left. Millbrook looks a litle nervous.
10:53: Warm-ups are over. The National Anthem will be played in a few minutes and then the game will begin.

10:36: The final warm-ups have begun. This should be a great game. The fans are really starting to file in. Many of the players from Millbrook's boys state championship team of two years ago are here including Calvin and Clayton Rodney and Jordan Sugars, who plays at Navy. Erick Green is also here to watch his sister Coutrni play. I'm sure part of him wishes he was in Greensboro. Erick plays at Virginia Tech, which lost to Miami yesterday in the ACC quarterfinals. This game should come down to who can control the pace. Millbrook will want to speed the game up with its full-court press. Greensville County likes a slower pace and likes to walk the ball up the court. They will try to go inside a lot to 6-foot-2 senior Gabby Tyler, who has signed with UNC-Charlotte. Both teams live off of their defense. I expect a somewhat close game. I'm predicting Millbrook by 10.

10:03: Hello everyone. Jeremy Stafford and I are here at the state final. It is about an hour before game time and Milbrook and Greensville County are both out warming up. The Pioneers seem to be pretty losse as they try to wake up. A few players have had some yawns, but I think they'll be ready to go. As for Jeremy and I were also starting to wake up. We made a quick pit stop at a Starbucks, so Jeremy could get some coffee. I'll give more updates throughout the warm-ups and the game.
