Millbrook headed for state title game

10:24: Jeremy Stafford and I are here at VCU for the girls state semifinals between Millbrook and Patrick County. Millbrook has already been out and warmed up some. I will keep you updated throughout the game.

10:34: Millbrook and Patrick County just came out for their final warm-ups. The Millbrook student scetion also just showed up. And it looks like there will be a lot of students missing school today at Millbrook as there is a very big turnout here from the student body. This should be a good game. Patrick County has a strong inside game, but if their guards can't handle Millbrook's press it won't matter.

1050: It's just three minutes until game time. There's a much bigger fan base here for Millbrook than Patrick County. Quite an impressive turnout for this early in the morning.

11:12: A great sign for Millbrook. Junior Emily White, coming off a 14-point state quarterfinal game, just hit a 3-pointer. Whe she's hitting her shots it's usually a bad thing for opposing teams. Millbrook leads 11-2 with 3:42 left in the first quarter.

11:04: Courtni Green scores on a layup for Millbrook's first points. Millbrook leads 2-0 with 6:33 left in the first quarter.

11:08: Alisha Mobley scored inside and Sara Mead hit two free throws. Millbrook is up 6-0 with 5:08 left in the first quarter.

11:20: It looks like another Millbrook rout. The Pioneers are up 26-6 after the first quarter. Green has 11 points, every starter has scored for Millbrook. The Cougars can't handle the Pioneers' pressure defense and it's looking like a very long day for them.

11:34:Millbrook didn't score for the last 6:10 of the first half, but the Pioneers still lead 36-14 at the half. Green has 13 to lead Millbrook. It didn't appear that Millbrook coach Debby Sanders was too pleased with her team's play at the end of the half. I look for them to come out fired up in the third quarter, which has been their best quarter all season. This game could get real ugly. Patrick County turned the ball over 14 times in the opening half.

12:00: Millbrook is still looking a litle sluggish. They are still up 51-25 at the end of three quarters. Green has 18 and Mead has 13. This game is well in hand. Millbrook will play on Saturday in the finals at 11 a.m. against the winner of the Greensville County-Robert E. Lee semifinal game, whcih will be played at 3.

12:18: Millbrook is putting the finishing touches on another easy win. They are up 60-30 with 1:15 left.

12:21: 61-35 is the final. I'll have final stats later on. Millbrook will play for its first state title on Saturday at 11 a.m.

1:01: Here is some final stats from today's game. Green had 20 points, while Mead had 15. Millbrook had 13 assists as a team compared to 4 for Patrick County. Mobley had 7 points and 9 rebounds. The Pioneers forced 25 turnovers. Look for stories on the game from Jeremy Stafford and I in tomorrow's edition.
