Clichés, filler and fluff

Clichés, filler and fluff ... I am not talking about cotton candy! I am referring to the meaningless and often overused filler words people seem to liberally spatter throughout their resumes.
Does your resume repeat "Responsible for..." or "Duties include..."? Other resume fillers I often see include "strong communication skills," "track record of success," "experience working in fast-paced environment." If these phrases are included more that once in your resume, I guarantee you will be boring the reader!
In a 2009 CareerBuilder survey, employers cited these common phrases as overused and often ignored by hiring managers:
- People person: 39 percent
- Go-getter: 38 percent
- Team player: 33 percent
- Hard-working: 29 percent
- Multitasker: 28 percent
- Self-starter: 27 percent
- Results- or goal-oriented: 22 percent
A resume has to be accomplishment driven and results oriented not filled with empty promises! Since this is not a resume, I am going to use the cliché "Show me, don't just tell me"!
Warm regards -
Sam
