Get results with results! I am no fortuneteller but I do know that past behavior predicts future behavior. How does this apply to your resume and marketability? If you are sending out a resume that simply lists previous job duties, chances are you are not going to accomplish your goal of obtaining an interview. Why?
It is an EXTREMELY competitive job market out there and there lots of people who have the skills required in a job description. When it comes to selecting individuals for an interview, an employer wants to see proof of your said skills and experience. Think along the lines of "show me, don't just tell" me you have the experience required. The best way to do this is having a resume that focuses on your accomplishments. A resume that highlights the positive results of your knowledge, skills, experience and abilities and demonstrates you can "walk the walk, not just talk the talk." Sorry for all the clichés, but I can't come up with a better way of demonstrating my point!
Now this is where the fortune telling part comes in. It is proven in studies that past behavior typically sets the tone for future behavior. If your resume highlights the positive results you provided your previous employers with, psychology says this is a pretty good indicator you will bring the same positive behaviors/results/accomplishments to the employer that hires you.
Examples of quantified job duties:
Implemented a quality control team to perform point of sale audits which resulted in frontline register productivity exceeding company standards by 2.5%
Identified vendor errors on invoice coding ultimately collecting $160,000 on delinquent accounts.
Developed a private label product line for a commercial account. This account grossed a 20% increase above planned sales.
Please send some time reflecting on the results of your on-the-job performance and make sure you are highlighting these accomplishments on your resume.
