The Shenandoah County Library in Edinburg will host its first two-sentence horror story contest. Stories may be submitted online through Oct. 16 at

Stories will be evaluated by staff and the public will be invited to vote for the best story between Oct. 21 and noon on Oct. 25. The top 10 stories will also be posted in the library and utilized on social media.

A story read and awards ceremony will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 25.

The first-place winner will be given the prize of two tickets to either Darkwood Manor Haunted House in Luray or two tickets to the Maize Quest Corn Maze near Mount Jackson. The second-place winner will receive second choice for those prizes. The third-place prize is a trick-or-treat basket of candy and Halloween apparel.
