A card shower is planned for Thelma Wolverton, who will celebrate her 100th birthday Sept. 19. Cards can be sent to her c/o Pine Meadows Assisted Living, 218 Mill Road, Woodstock, Virginia 22664.



St. John’s Lutheran Church will hold Mocha and a Message, a contemporary worship service, at 6 p.m. Saturday at 3623 Back Mountain Road, Winchester.

A silent auction will follow to benefit the steeple fund. Items include paintings by P. Buckley Moss, Kathy Chumley and Mort Kunstler, homemade quilts, shawls and woodworking items and decorations.



Laurel Hill Christian Church in Lebanon Church has postponed bingo scheduled for Friday to benefit the Strasburg FFA.


Daniel Downey, a Strasburg native and historian, will present a program on the bridges of Cedar Creek and the Valley Pike at the meeting of the Strasburg Heritage Association from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the old Daniel Stickley farm north of Strasburg. Parking will be at the historic markers off state Route 11 at Cedar Creek.

Weather permitting, a walking tour to the old bridge abutment along the trace of the original Pike will be conducted. Those attending should bring lawn chairs. In case of rain, the program will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Strasburg. Information: 540-465-5570.
