Fish fry

St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Woodstock will hold a catfish and cod fish fry from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today. The cost is $8 per person or $25 per family.


Laurel Hill Christian Church in Lebanon Church will host 50/50 bingo from 7 to 10 p.m. today to benefit Strasburg High School cheerleaders. The cost is 25-cents per card plus a $3 cover charge for snacks and drinks.


The family of the late Lester and Robie Wymer will hold a reunion at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lions Club Park behind the old mill in Strasburg.

Sustainability Matters will hold a four-part series on the tools needed to identify landscaping elements with negative ecological impact and replace them with designs to benefit pollinators and wildlife.

The first program will be on pollinator habitats from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the state Arboretum at Blandy Farm in Boyce. Participants will visit the Virginia Department of Transportation’s highway pollinator habitat nearby.

The cost is $10 or $5 for SM and Blandy members. Registration requested at



Samuels Public Library in Front Royal will offer the following programs for adults:

  • SamiCon 2018 convention: 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Sept. 15. This year’s theme is Harry Potter. Vendors fair, Digital Bookmobile by Overdrive, makerspace, crafts, Hogwarts classes and prize drawings. Come dressed as your favorite character.
