Valley Health to host wellness expo Saturday

The Community Safety & Wellness Expo, sponsored by Valley Health Warren Memorial Hospital, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at Warren County High School.

Kristin Waltz, co-chair and operating room nurse, said over 30 years ago a group of like-minded individuals in the community came together with the goal of providing educational resources for physical and emotional wellness for all ages.

“The goal of the expo is to help community members better understand what resources we provide as a hospital while maintaining their health,” Waltz said.

Saturday’s expo will feature 80 exhibits, plus a free heart-healthy continental breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Over 600 individuals are expected to attend Saturday’s wellness expo Waltz said.

“Our expo continues to grow both regarding community attendance and exhibitor interest,” Waltz said.

The Warren County Fire Department, Sheriff’s Office, Front Royal Masonic Lodge, Lions Club and Warren Coalition will be among many of the volunteers onsite providing demos and educational resources.

Comprehensive blood work panels will be performed by Warren Memorial Laboratory – a 12-hour fast is required. Basic panels include CBC, CMP, lipid, TSH for $45. Other tests may be added for additional fees.

Free screenings include cardiac rhythm, peripheral arterial disease, blood pressure, BMI, hearing and vision, pulmonary function testing and vouchers for free mammograms.

Safety exhibits and demonstrations will include bicycle and scooter safety, drive-through car seat inspections, child identification, texting and distracted driving simulators, and emergency vehicles, including Air Care.

Fun for kids include a teddy bear clinic where children are encouraged to bring their favorite friend for a checkup or receive a new one while supplies last, a healthy lifestyle challenge where children will complete activities, a petting zoo and K-9 demos.

There will be free giveaways including bike helmets, scooters, skateboards and fitness trackers.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the tremendous support our volunteers and sponsors provide, allowing this to be such s successful event,” Waltz said.
