Pet of the Week: Affectionate Alex is looking for a home
WINCHESTER — Alex, a 4-year-old cat at the Winchester SPCA, is an affectionate cat. Billie Guidry, an adoption agent at the animal shelter, described him as one of the few cats who like receiving belly rubs.
Now, Alex is looking for a new home.
Guidry said that Alex has feline immunodeficiency virus. She added that he came to the shelter as a stray, although she suspects that someone used to own him.
“He probably contracted FIV from some cat brawl he had (when he was a stray,)” Guidry said.
Because of his affectionate behavior, Guidry said that Alex would fit in with just about any home.
She said that he gets along with other cats and with people. The Winchester SPCA has not tested him with dogs, but Guidry said that Alex had not had any problems with any of the dogs that have walked past his cage.
“As super affectionate as he is, a family of children would be great,” Guidry said.
Although he has FIV, Guidry said Alex would not have any problems in houses with other cats, even in those with cats who are not FIV-positive.
“Cats with FIV can live long, wonderful lives, just like other cats,” Guidry said.
Like all cats at the Winchester SPCA, Alex is neutered and has been microchipped and vaccinated.
Alex’s adoption fee is $75.
