St. Luke Brethren Church will hold a chicken barbecue and bake sale Saturday at 3250 Back Road, Woodstock. Chicken will be ready at 9 a.m. The cost is $4 per half. Proceeds benefit the Faith Community Nurses Program.

Open house

The Conicville Volunteer Fire Department is celebrating 50 years of service with an open house from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Activities include games, face painting, public safety exhibits by the Virginia Department of Forestry and the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s office and an air care demonstration at 4 p.m. There will be food and a raffle at 6 p.m. for a John Deere Gator.

Doggie Day

North Mountain Vineyards will host a Doggie Day starting at 1 p.m. Saturday at 4374 Swartz Road, Maurertown.

Members of the Shenandoah County Animal Shelter will be on hand with dogs for adoption, “alumni” dogs (previously adopted from the shelter) and theme vendors. An official agility evaluation will be available from 2 to 4 p.m.


North Warren Fire and Rescue will hold an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday at 89 Rockland Road, Front Royal.

The cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children ages 4 to 12 and free for ages 3 and under.


Samuels Library in Front Royal will hold the following programs:

• Eclipse celebration (ages 5-older): 2 p.m., Saturday featuring an ice cream social

• The Maker Club (for school-aged children): 4:30 p.m., Tuesday. The theme will be about the fun of traveling.

• Toddler story time: 10:15 a.m., Wednesday and Thursday.

• Preschool story time: 11 a.m., Wednesday and Thursday.

The South Street Barn Market and Swover Creek Farms Brewery will host a corn hole tournament to benefit the Community School breakfast program starting at 1 p.m. Sunday at 4176 Swover Creek Road, Edinburg.
