Shenandoah County sheriff’s deputies charged three men in connection with a Columbus Day session of target shooting on the 1400 block of Hahns Lane in Toms Brook.

Two homeowners  called the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office about gunfire around their homes at about 2 p.m. Oct. 9, said Capt. Wesley Dellinger.

Deputies arrived to gunfire coming through the trees, including one deputy who reported shots going over his head, Dellinger said.

Deputies believe one of the homes was hit based on their discovery of a bullet entrance but they never recovered any round. No injuries were reported.

Several members of the Poff family were found on the adjacent property firing two handguns and a rifle.

Deputies charged: Warren Michael Poff, 26, of Edinburg, Vernon Warren Poff Jr., 51, of Woodstock, and Travis Lee Poff, 25, of Strasburg,  with reckless handling of a firearm, Sheriff’s Office officials said.

The men are to appear at 9 a.m. Oct. 27 in Shenandoah County General District Court.
