Frederick County is looking for a suspect or suspects responsible for shooting at windows this month.

During the last eight to 10 days the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department has received about 25 calls of vehicle or home windows being shot at by what appears to be a BB or pellet gun, said Capt. Aleck Beeman.

One shooting is especially troubling to law enforcement.

A woman had left work and was driving her vehicle home when the rear window was shot out, Beeman said. The woman pulled over and called law enforcement.

“This could have caused her to have an accident or caused her to panic. It could have hurt her if it had hit her front window,” Beeman said.

The incidents have occurred in the areas of Stephens City, Senseny Road, Clear Brook, the Northwestern Pike and the Front Royal Pike.

No one has seen who is doing the shooting and law enforcement is not assuming anything, including the shooter’s age.

“We want to get this person,” Beeman said.

About a third of the homes where windows were shot at had people inside at the time, he said.

Shooting into an occupied vehicle or occupied structure are felonies. If they are unoccupied at the time the charges would be a misdemeanor, he said.

Similar incidents have been reported happening in the Berryville area, he said.

Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to call the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office at 540-662-6162 or contact Crime Solvers at 540-665-TIPS.
