A woman was transported to the hospital Wednesday after a utility pole fell on her car in Warren County.

Virginia State Police Trooper K. J. Orr said a tractor trailer traveling north on U.S Route 340 near Taylor Road hit a utility line hanging overhead. He said the tractor trailer pulled down three utility poles.

“It (the line) may have been hanging a little low, we’re not exactly sure,” he said. “There was a lot of wind that day.”

One utility pole hit a Honda Civic traveling south, and Orr said the female driver was taken to Warren Memorial Hospital. He said state police determined that the incident occurred at around 12:40 p.m.

Orr said he didn’t believe any power outages occurred as a result of the poles falling, and workers from Century Link arrived at the scene to check on the poles. He said no charges have been filed, calling the incident an “unfortunate accident.”

According to dispatchers, an ambulance from the Rivermont department, two fire engines and five Warren County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene. The road reopened to traffic at around 3:20 p.m.
