FRONT ROYAL – A Warren County man was arrested Thursday morning stemming from an alleged sexual assault that occurred in his Catlett Mountain home, according to a criminal complaint by Warren County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Mackenzie Knowles.
Basil John Chuppa, 40, of the 400 block of Catlett Mountain Road, was charged on a felony count of aggravated sexual battery and a felony count of strangulation causing a wound or injury.
Knowles states in the complaint that the department received a report on Wednesday from an unidentified female of a Sept. 2 sexual assault. That female told police Chuppa “became flirtatious” during a visit at his house.
The complaint states after the female told Chuppa “they were only friends,” he tried to kiss her. The female told police she fell down during an altercation and Chuppa got on top of her and “pulled her breast out of her shirt.”
The complaint states Chuppa then bit the female’s neck and strangled her, restricting her breathing ability. The female told police she was able to escape.
The female had bruises on her body consistent with an assault and a forensic nurse found the injuries were consistent with her statements, according to the complaint.
Chuppa is being held without bond at the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail.
A Sheriff’s Office news release states that anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact Knowles at 540-635-7100 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
