A two-vehicle crash involving an overturned tractor trailer on State Route 37 delayed traffic and sent a driver to the hospital Thursday morning.

Sgt. F.L. (Les) Tyler, of the Virginia State Police, said Michael James Grimm, 43, of East Liverpool, Ohio, was driving north at around 8:10 a.m. when he lost control of his 2012 International tractor trailer. Tyler said Grimm’s vehicle crossed over the median into the southbound lane and overturned, compromising the trailer and letting loose the rolls of paper it was transporting.

Tyler said Grimm’s vehicle collided with the driver’s side of a 2007 Ford truck that was traveling southbound, but no one in the truck was injured. Grimm was taken to Winchester Medical Center with injuries.

Because police believe a medical condition caused Grimm to lose control of the vehicle, Tyler said Grimm would not face charges in the incident. Tyler said HIPPA laws prohibit him from relaying any details about the medical condition.

“All I can say was it was a medical issue…,” he said.

Tyler said a Motor Carrier Safety team, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Department and Virginia Department of Transportation assisted in the incident. According to VDOT 511 information, the area was clear by 11:36 a.m.
