FRONT ROYAL – The upgrades to Ressie Jeffries Elementary School’s playground and building are not the only changes slated for the school, as a new principal has been tapped to take the helm next year.
Nina Helmick was approved by the School Board last week as the school’s principal for the 2018-19 school year. She will begin the position July 1.
Helmick has been Ressie Jeffries’ vice principal since 2014 and is succeeding Dorris Dean, who was principal for one year and retired.
Helmick said her main two goals as principal are to “continue moving forward as an accredited school” and providing a “safe and exciting place for children to come every day.”
“I look forward to continuing to build strong relationships with students, staff, and families of Ressie. I am a proud member of Ressie and can not wait to begin this journey,” she said, adding that the only challenge she foresees is learning the role of principal, but is “confident that I am ready and looking forward to it.”
Helmick has been a Warren County Public Schools employee since 1993. After teaching at E. Wilson Morrison Elementary School for 17 years she was A.S. Rhodes Elementary School’s head teacher for three years.
Schools Superintendent Greg Drescher said such extensive experience ensures her readiness for the position, and “I know she’s going to do a great job.”
He added, “I know she’s very happy about this, and we are too.”
