Deputies arrest Edinburg man on assault charge

Matthew Eric Hensley

An Edinburg man faces an assault charge after Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested him on Monday.

Matthew Eric Hensley, 40, was charged with assault and kidnapping after deputies arrived just after 7 p.m. Sunday at a home on Water Street in Edinburg.  Deputies obtained a warrant and arrested him on Monday.

A woman, later found to be the girlfriend of Hensley, told a deputy Hensley came to her home drunk and the two argued, according to a criminal complaint that is part of the court record. She alleged Hensley struck her on the top of her head and then tried to clean her up in the shower, according to that complaint.

Deputies stated in the complaint that Hensley would not let the woman leave the home, and that he fled the home before deputies could arrive.

The woman was treated for injuries to the front of her head.
