Former Mount Jackson resident charged with sex crime
Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office investigators on Tuesday arrested a former Mount Jackson resident on sex-related charges.
Richard James Provenzano, 60, was charged with three counts of sexual assault/ forcible sodomy of a victim under the age of 13. He was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and abuse of a minor, according to arrest records.
Investigators on March 30 were contacted about a sexual assault of a minor that took place from July 1 to Dec. 31, 2008, according to a criminal complaint filed in his court case.
It had been reported to the Shenandoah County Department of Social Services that Provenzano allegedly put his penis inside the victim’s mouth while in the main bedroom of his home on Cave Ridge Road in Mount Jackson, where he lived at the time. Provenzano reported to law enforcement and the courts that he now resides in Albany, New York.
Provenzano, however, was arrested locally.
During the investigation, the victim provided law enforcement the same details.
The criminal complaint states that investigators interviewed witnesses who said Provenzano would take the victim to his bedroom and lock the door.
Sgt. Robert Poe, of the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s office, said Provenzano had no prior criminal record either locally or in New York.
