Cyclist hit by car, airlifted to hospital

FRONT ROYAL – A Front Royal man remains in critical condition after being struck by a car Saturday night, according to a text message from Front Royal Police Capt. Crystal Cline.

Trevail Deshaun Holloman, 21, was hit just before midnight by a northbound car on Royal Avenue near the intersection with West Prospect Street, according to a Front Royal police news release. The driver was Nathan Helsey, 21, of Front Royal.

The release states that witnesses at the scene reported that Holloman “was riding his bike on the sidewalk before riding off the curb and into the travel lane of the oncoming vehicle.”

Upon officers’ arrival, the release states, Holloman was trapped under a Chevy Malibu and was excavated using a tire jack to lift the vehicle. Alcohol or speeding were not factors in the incident, the release states.

The release states that Holloman was transported to Warren Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to the Virginia Commonwealth Medical Center.

Assisting agencies on the scene included the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Warren County Fire and Rescue and the Virginia State Police.

The release states that the incident remains under investigation and anyone with further information is asked to contact Officer Olivia Meadows at 540-635-2111.
