Bentonville drowning victim is identified

Harry Glenn Fitzwater, 72, of Bentonville, has been identified as the man who died Thursday in a suspected drowning in the Shenandoah River in Warren County, according to a news release from Warren County Sheriff Daniel McEathron.

McEathron said the case remains under investigation as an accidental death and that the chief medical examiner in Manassas conducted an autopsy.

McEathron said that Fitzwater, who was unable to swim, had “a known medical history and would frequently use his golf cart near the river.”

Fitzwater was last seen 2:20 p.m. Thursday driving a golf cart away from his 938 Misty Meadow Lane home to the riverside.

According to previous reports, rescue units were dispatched 6:13 p.m. Thursday in response to a missing person report and Fitzwater’s body was found around 7:25. McEathron said that a golf cart was also found on Misty Meadow Lane.

The release states that anyone with further information should contact Sheriff’s Office Lt. Phillip Henry at 540-635-7100 or ltphenry@warrencountysheriff.org.
