IT firm to bring 600 jobs to Front Royal

The first redevelopment project slated for the former Avtex Fibers site is expected to create more than 600 jobs for the Front Royal area.

U.S. Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Virginia, announced Friday that $40 million economic development deal calls for ITFederal LLC to build an office complex on approximately 30 acres of the former Superfund site. The Front Royal-Warren County Economic Development Authority owns the Avtex site. The EDA and ITFederal are working out the final details of the contract, which should be complete within the next week.

The project is expected to create more than 600, high-paying jobs. ITFederal will build a 67,000-square-foot, mixed-use office complex. The complex will include 37,000 square feet of office space, 20,000 square feet of retail space and a 10,000-square-foot cloud data center to support ITFederal.

Construction is expected to last an estimated 36 months with the construction of the first phase to begin in the third quarter of this year and completed by November 2016. The second building is expected to be fully operational in October 2017 and the third building in September 2018.

Felony indictments

Four New Market residents have been indicted on arson charges stemming from a barn fire on Brannertown Road in New Market on July 27, 2014.

According to a news release issued today by Shenandoah County Fire Marshal David A. Ferguson, those indicted are Robert Dale Wimer and Dolly Jean Wimer, both of 176 Brannertown Lane, New Market, and Robert Lee Price and Cindy Marie Price, both of 157 Brannertown Lane, New Market.

Major drug bust in Front Royal

Wendy Louise Cooley, 45, and Marvin Eugene Cooley, 47, were arrested in Front Royal on Thursday and charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin. According to a news release from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, 76 individually wrapped packages of heroin, with a street value of more than $2,200, were found in the Cooley’s room at the Cool Harbor Motel.

This arrest came about from an investigation into heroin distribution in the Warren County area by the Northwest Regional Drug Task Force and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. A search warrant was executed for the motel room with the assistance of the Front Royal Police Department. Wendy Cooley and Marvin Cooley are both being held in the Rappahannock- Shenandoah-Warren County Regional Jail without bond.

New Warren middle school

At a Thursday evening meeting, the Warren County School Board heard preliminary results of a survey from residents on potential names for a new middle school. The board also approved contracts for the 2016 fiscal year, which begins July 1, and announced reassignments among central office and administrative staff.
