Man sustains injury jumping into swimming hole
An unidentified 39-year-old man injured his leg after leaping into a swimming hole on Wednesday, according to a Warren County Fire and Rescue Services news release.
The release states that rescue crews responded at about 2:30 p.m. to Overall Run Trail on Thompson Hollow Road, which is about 1.5 miles deep into the trail, in response to “a possible rescue situation.”
The release states that upon the crews’ arrival, they requested a medical helicopter and an off-road utility vehicle for assistance. An impending thunderstorm, however, prevented the helicopter from reaching the scene.
The release states that the “extreme heat” and threat of thunderstorms resulted in a rescue effort that spanned about two hours. Crews were eventually able to “extract the victim from the trail system” and he was transported to Warren Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Four Warren County stations responded to the scene, and crews received assistance from the National Park Service.
Warren County Fire Chief Richard Mabie said he did not respond to the scene and diverted an inquiry to Fire Marshal Gerry Maiatico, who could not be reached for further comment.
